Tomorrow is it.
After all the news stories of Black Friday brawls over merchandise, comes a reminder that we’re better than that.
Global giving, in fun and creative ways, will be happening all day tomorrow, December 2, as individuals, businesses, students and families celebrate the third annual “Giving Tuesday” by “giving back” to their favorite non-profit organizations.
Giving Tuesday™ was started in 2012, by New York’s 92nd Street Y, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It’s grown to a worldwide event, with social-media tools and all kinds of ways to support
According to their website, Giving Tuesday™ will kick off tomorrow with an 8:00 am EST (that’s 5:00 am for us West Coasters, but worth it!) Google Plus hangout. People can decide to give money, time or just reconnect with family and friends. A great creative idea came from United Nations Foundation’s Outreach, Communications and Special Initiatives Officer, Anastasia Dellaccio. Her kids set up a lemonade stand for Mother’s Day, and donated the proceeds to charity, in her honor.
You can find out who’s doing something special in your neighborhood by going to the “Toolkit” section of Giving Tuesday’s webpage; they list areas in which people are getting involved, both in the U.S. and globally.
Giving Tuesday™ encourages you to share your “giving” story with them, at givingtuesday@gmail.com. You can also support Giving Tuesday by posting an “unselfie” of what you’re doing on your social media. Please remember to hashtag: #GivingTuesday.
And have fun!
