On Tuesday, December 2, all around the world, people will be celebrating–a chance to give back.
They’ll be joining together to give something more, coming up with creative ways to benefit their favorite charities, and re-imagining some traditional ways of giving by adding twenty-first century technology.
And it’s all a part of Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday, now in its third year, is a new global tradition: a day when individuals, families and communities come together with the common purpose of giving, and celebrating the fact that they can make a difference.
The United Nations Foundation, in partnership with New York’s 92nd Street Y, first created Giving Tuesday in 2012. Since then, the movement has blossomed, with entire cities dedicating their efforts. On last year’s Giving Tuesday, according to their webpage, Baltimore alone raised nearly six million dollars for nonprofits.
Anastasia Dellaccio is the United Nations Foundation’s Outreach, Communications and Special Initiatives Officer, as well as a Washington, D.C.-area entrepreneur. Anastasia talked about the origins of Giving Tuesday, her experiences and some of the creative ideas families and communities have generated, for this global special event.
