This Thursday, February 28th, the Anaheim Ducks Hockey Club are expecting guests.
In fact, they’re expecting 16,000 of them.
That’s because this Thursday, the Ducks host their “First Flight Field Trip” for their local School and Education Program! And they’ll be welcoming students, grades 3-6, to Honda Center for a day of instruction on STEAM topics. This year’s theme: “Build a Better Puck”.
Called S.C.O.R.E., an acronym for “Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation and Education”, the Ducks’ innovative program is now in its eighteenth year. And “First Flight” is just one of its branches.
As we learned during an earlier interview with Jason Cooper, who is Developer of Fan Management Marketing for the Anaheim Ducks, the day will start with exhibits. Visitors will walk through what amounts to “a large science fair” in the Ducks’ parking lot. Local organizations, including colleges and engineering firms, will be offering exhibits which tie into the day’s theme.
Then, midmorning, the young visitors come inside for instruction from Ducks players and coaching staff. And their new teachers for the day will be using the subject of hockey to explain science, technology, engineering, and math concepts–with some challenges in the arts area, as well.
And in 2020, the theme will be “Light the Lamp”, as the Ducks and their guests explore electrical engineering through hockey!
In addition to the First Flight Field Trip, S.C.O.R.E. offerings include four physical-education programs, as well as the “Reading is the Goal” challenge for fourth-graders.
S.C.O.R.E. is a free program. Would you like an early start on getting your students or school involved in 2020? Here’s the link for information!
