Summer, 2018, means lots of things.
Among them: a number of innovation-oriented special events coming up!
Here are just three of them.
Sensors Expo and Conference, San Jose, June 26th – 28th
The engineering industry’s largest event dedicated to sensors, systems and connectivity happens Tuesday, June 26th through Thursday, June 28th in San Jose.
In other words, next week.
And among their exciting new offerings will be an all-day “Autonomous Vehicle Sensors Conference”!
Co-located with Sensors Expo and Conference, this full-day conference, according to their online schedule, will cover areas including machine-learning development, the AV car experience and what’s next, for camera sensors in the autonomous vehicle.
When and where? The conference starts with breakfast and networking at 8:00, Tuesday morning, June 26th. While we have not seen a location listed, past pre-conference events have been located in McEnery Convention Center’s upstairs conference rooms. (So was 2017’s excellent half-day 2017 workshop on “Automotive & Autonomous Vehicle Sensors”.)
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s events also include four pre-conference symposia, covering areas including wearables, the Internet of Things and energy-efficient power solutions for sensor technology.
Then, Sensors Expo and Conference officially opens Wednesday morning, June 27th, with a keynote by Microsoft Director of Science Marc Pollefeys on “Sensor-Driven 3D Computer Vision and the Future of Human-Machine Interaction”.
As always, the conference promises to feature more than any one attendee could possibly experience. But we’re especially looking forward to the “State of the Robotics Industry” session, the panel featuring “Women in Sensors Engineering” and Thursday’s “Future Wearables” session, as well as exploring the expo floor. Here is a link to the conference schedule.
Sensors Expo and Workshop hosts pre-conference events starting Tuesday, June 26th at 9:00 am at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center, 150 West San Carlos Street at South Market, in San Jose. The conference itself opens with a networking breakfast on Wednesday, June 27th and runs through Thursday afternoon, June 28th.
IDEAS Immersion Demo Day, Santa Monica, July 3, 2018
IDEAS Immersion is a fantastic two-week immersion program by Tel Aviv University – American Friends, partnering with businesses, investors, community groups and media. (IDEAS is an acronym for “Israel, Digital, Arts, Entrepreneurs and Science”.)
Every summer, IDEAS Immersion brings talented Israeli startup entrepreneurs to first Los Angeles and Silicon Valley, then Chicago. During the two weeks of their specific session, they’re learning, growing, and pitching their ideas to potential investors.
While many of IDEAS Immersion’s events are for accepted applicants only, they’ll host their free-admission “Demo Day” and lunch on Tuesday, July 3, at Philosophie in Santa Monica. Talented entrepreneurs will be on hand to talk about their innovations and answer questions from attendees, potential investors, and anyone else who would like to attend, with the goal of receiving feedback and advice about their creations.
Space is limited; here is the Eventbrite link for advance registration.
IDEAS Immersion Demo Day and Lunch happens from noon to 2 pm on Tuesday, July 3 at Philosophie, 1615 16th Street, south of Colorado Avenue, in Santa Monica.
Happy Birthday, Urban Workshop! (July 21, 2018)
Urban Workshop, North America’s third-largest DIY workshop and makerspace, celebrates its four-year anniversary with an open house!
(How quickly the time has gone. We had the honor of being on hand to explore their grand opening in 2014! In addition, when they outgrew their Irvine facility, we also had an opportunity to explore their current space, in Costa Mesa.)
Urban Workshop can best be described as “shop class” for everyone, ages 10 to 110. Programs are available for youth, adults and educators. With more than 13,000 square feet of maker and co-working space, they have a list of equipment that ranges from a ceramics kiln, to soldering stations, woodworking equipment and a silk screening machine.
And while they offer memberships for classes, individual classes are available, as well.
Their upcoming celebration will be “open-house style”, with everyone invited to come by, enjoy refreshments and meet their maker community.
Urban Workshop’s fourth-anniversary celebration happens from 10 am to 4 pm, Saturday, July 21, 2018, at their facility at 365-A Clinton Street, in Costa Mesa. Admission is free.
