The camels clearly enjoyed the attention. Sampson, one of the older camels in the group, demonstrated a skill most people don’t realize a camel has.
“Camels can crawl very, very fast,” Gil explained.
Jamaal, who, Gil said, was the first camel born on the Oasis Camel Dairy ranch, demonstrated a “hat trick” of sorts.
But the high point of Gil’s presentation occurred when Lily, a mother camel who had only been with Gil and Nancy for five months, allowed Gil to milk her in front of an audience, for the first time.
Gil had been unsure whether milking Lily today would be possible, due to her not yet having learned to completely trust her new owners. “Next year she’ll be very trusting and easy to work with,” Gil explained.
