Dark things will be afoot in Pasadena in August. Ghosts, ghouls, goblins and monsters are headed that way. And it’s going to be a blast for everyone.
Lora Ivanova is the co-founder and executive producer of ScareLA, Southern California’s first-ever Halloween horror convention. She first created her unique and immersive summertime Halloween event in 2013. Inspiration struck, she says, after she and a fellow Halloween-buff friend commiserated on the speed with which Halloween was over!
So, what happens at ScareLA? It’s a good-witch’s brew of Halloween new-attraction previews (Universal Studios had a line all the way down the hall last year!), make-and-take workshops with a Halloween theme, mini-haunts and performances, as well as discussion panels. And, of course, there’s a costume party, as well as a lot of attendees getting into the “spirit”.
What has made ScareLA such a howling success for the past two years, is the fact that it’s geared towards anyone who loves Halloween. So whether you love classic horror films, the edgier blood-and-guts haunts or more family-oriented fare, you’re in for a wicked good time.
Lora talked about her experiences creating her third, and largest, ScareLA, previewed some of this year’s new additions (she authorized us to tell you about one she’s just revealing this week!)–and even offered some networking tips for attendees who’d like to work in the horror industry professionally.
