Are you in the process of creating a VR game or experience in Unity Technologies‘ real-time development platform?
Did you know you could change a wall’s texture to make it look grainy, overpainted or flaky? Or that you can change the shape of your light in a scene? Or that there’s one icon that can take you back to undo the change you did ten steps ago?
I didn’t. Those are just a few preliminary tips offered in a new course by Justin Barnett: VR Creator Academy.
Justin has said that his goal is to take indie VR developers from the ground up. By the time the course is finished, he’ll have covered not only how to create a game–but what the next steps are, to “going professional”: either applying for a job as a game developer, or developing independently.
Currently, Justin’s recording videos about the nuts and bolts of creating VR games in Unity. Worldbuilding, C# programming and XR interaction are all going to be a part of his curriculum. There’s a weekly group call for questions and discussion.
As the first cohort of his class, our group gets to offer feedback on what works, and does not work, for us.
And we may get to do a very cool group project! More than one participant, in a recent online meetup, said they were looking forward to being a part of this.
Oh–and don’t let the “worldbuilding” and “programming” aspects intimidate you. He takes you through in “bite-sized” videos (5-10 minutes) which are a definite plus when you have a busy schedule.
