“I’m having fun with the whale,” Wyland said. “But notice how I’m using different colors, to texture and make it look three-dimensional.”
As the Wyland National Ocean Art Challenge begins, the Wyland Foundation will be providing free art supplies as well as teacher lesson plans to schools in one hundred cities. Students in forty-five states participated in the Art Challenge last year. Students are encouraged to create both individual environmental art and large-scale murals, based on this year’s theme, “Ocean”. Challenge dates are September 25th through October 25th, and more information is available from the Wyland Foundation.
